The Fairmont Washington, D.C. is one of those interior design projects that was made to impress. The interior design firm ForrestPerkins use the geometry of an aerial view of Washington DC as inspiration to transform the lobby, lounge, and outdoor courtyard. The millionaire renovation was divided into two parts, the Phase I was in charge of New York’s Wimberly Interiors, and the Phase II of the project was led by interior Amanda Jackson of Dallas-based ForrestPerkins drawing inspiration from a geometric aerial view of the city in the luxury hotel lobby.

The reception desk features an abstracted map of DC in gold tones with brushed, polished, satin finishes, as well as the dramatic undulating chandelier.

Sprinkled with small lights, mixed metals descending from the ceiling all bear similar geometrics, as do the fabrics and furniture throughout the space. Suspended shapes of mixed metals, the geometric elements create a play of shadows on the original limestone columns that pay homage to the city’s Neoclassical architecture. This idea of geometry is also brought into many of the pieces of furniture.

A colour palette—also influenced by this aerial view of DC— includes blue, emerald and neutral tones fill the interior of the lobby and bar.

Inspiration from a geometric aerial view of the city in the luxury hotel lobby. Café tables have been installed beneath a canopy of cherry trees, and contemporary lounge furniture placed around fire pits as well to ensure comfort across the seasons.

Just as in the interior, there is a variety of seating styles and groups. The colour palette visually links to the interior, as well to encourage this space being utilized in conjunction with the luxury lobby design.

The landscaped courtyard was levelled to allow for larger events, with pockets of seating. Two new water features were added as a visual and auditory backdrop.

The U-shaped bar is anchored by the grand staircase and seats up to 16 people, offering views of the luxury hotel lobby loggia and urban courtyard garden.
